I have recently read a sermon by the late Jonathan Edwards entitled, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”. Edwards is very repetitive throughout the whole thing, basically stating his one point over and over again. The main focus of this particular sermon was to drill home the fact that unbelievers and those of wicked intent are to be cast into hell-fire at God’s will. "In due time their foot will slide," is the verse on which Edwards entire sermon is based upon. From this verse he derives a multitude of underlying meanings, basically letting the people know what this particular verse is implying. Edwards preaches that the verse implies that all those that are unbelievers and of wicked intent are destined to go to hell. He says they deserve to go to hell and that the only reason they have not yet gone is because their time has not yet come, and that when they do finally descend into hell it would have been by their own doing. I salute Edwards on his ability to use references from different parts of the Bible to support his main point. Also his ability to break things down to where even the simplest of simpletons can understand what he is saying is one to be rivaled. I can see why he was as big a preacher as he was and why he gathered so many followers.
